This weekend will see a huge number of volunteers take to Ireland’s beaches to take part in the Big Beach Clean initiative. The event, which is organised by an Taisce’s Clean Coasts, runs from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd of September.
Volunteers who register are equipped with clean up kits and are asked to survey the type and amount of litter that they find.
The event appears to be growing in popularity as volunteers across our coastlines take to the beaches in the thousands to help do their part and keep our beaches clean and litter free.
Last year over 32 tonnes were removed by the volunteers.
To find out more or indeed if you wish to get involved, go to the Clean Coasts website and register your interest or indeed find out if there is an existing beach clean group to join near you.
The Clean Coasts programme works with communities to help protect and care for Ireland’s waterways, coastline, seas, ocean and marine life.
